Northshore Endodontics History

Our office provides a complete selection of endodontic services and treatment of traumatic dental injuries, cracked teeth, and dental pain.

Root Canal Therapy. root canal removes infected pulp from a tooth's interior and clears any infection, relieving pain and possibly saving the tooth from extraction. The endodontist then fills and re-seals the tooth. A dentist completes the restoration by applying a filling or crown.

Endodontic Re-Treatment. Sometimes root canals fail to remove all infected pulp. On other occasions, a restoration like a filling or crown may let food or saliva into the tooth. If a tooth that has undergone a root canal begins to hurt again, an endodontist should examine it to see whether it needs re-treatment. As part of the re-treatment process, the endodontist opens the tooth again and takes care of the infected material.

Apical Surgery (Apicoectomy). An apicoectomy may be necessary when pain and swelling persist after a root canal. Apical surgery takes care of infections inside the root tip. The procedure is also called a root-end resection. To perform the apicoectomy, the endodontist makes a small incision through the gum and bone and removes the infected root tip.

Sedation Endodontics. We understand that many patients feel nervous about endodontic work. While our procedures are comfortable for most patients under local anesthesia, we offer multiple sedation options for patients who need them.

Traumatic Dental Injuries. Traumatic dental injuries may occur during falls, accidents, and sports. We treat damaged teeth by performing root canals and sealing the tooth against future damage. We will do our best to save your natural tooth from extraction.

Cracked Teeth & Fractures. Cracked teeth can cause a great deal of pain. If you suspect you have a fractured or cracked tooth, have it assessed promptly. An expert endodontist can diagnose your problem and prolong the life of your tooth.

Diagnosis of Dental Pain. Endodontists dedicate themselves to resolving facial and dental pain. Using advanced diagnostic tools like the CBCT scanner, our endodontists can pinpoint the cause of your pain and create a workable treatment plan.

At North Shore & Brookline Endodontics, we can resolve your dental pain and preserve your natural teeth to the fullest possible extent. We maintain a friendly, patient-centered environment and offer state-of-the-art dental care.

Frequently Asked Questions About Endodontic Care

How long does a root canal take?
A root canal typically takes about 30 to 60 minutes. Your endodontist will tell you whether you need one or two appointments to complete the root canal.
Is a root canal painful?
When you receive proper local anesthesia, a root canal is a comfortable experience. If you need additional sedation due to dental anxiety, we can provide it.
What are the signs that I need a root canal?
You may have a fracture in the tooth, a toothache, or sensitivity to heat, cold, and chewing. You may also have pain or swelling around the tooth, swollen gums, or pus drainage.
How do I know when I need endodontic retreatment?
If you need a repeat root canal, you may notice that your tooth starts to hurt again. You may have swelling in your gums (an abscess) as well. Since it can be challenging to determine which tooth is causing pain, see an endodontist to help you pinpoint the problem.
Can a cracked tooth heal on its own?
No, a cracked tooth cannot heal on its own. Eventually, the tooth will need extraction. An endodontist can protect the tooth enough to prolong its useful life.
Will I experience pain after the root canal?
Many patients experience no pain at all, but others have mild discomfort. Most patients with discomfort can manage it with over-the-counter pain medication.
What happens if a root canal can't save my tooth?
Sometimes, the tooth will be too damaged for a root canal to be effective. You will then need to have the tooth extracted.

Patient Testimonials

"I was referred here by my dentist for a root canal, and was able to call and schedule one easily for the next week. I've had root canals previously, but my experience with Dr. Singh was outstanding. She and her assistant made me feel at ease and explained what they were doing in a way that was easy to understand. I experienced so little discomfort that I even fell asleep during different points of the procedure. While I hope I never have another reason to visit, I would happily come back to Dr. Singh for any endodontic needs."
Deborah C. – Boston, MA

"Under the expert, efficient, communicative, friendly care of Harvard-trained practice partner Dr. Fiza Singh—having a root canal was, shockingly, an absolute pleasure! There is nothing more comforting than knowing you are receiving top-notch treatment, and Dr. Singh is the best. From a pleasant reception to the kind and comforting support of assistant Pamela throughout the process, to clear explanations and thorough information on aftercare procedures, I experienced a highly professional, pleasant and pain-free visit."
Niki B. – Brookline, MA

"I had a wonderful experience here for a root canal with Dr. Shamritsky. The procedure was very comfortable and efficient. The doctor was attentive to my concerns and took his time to explain each step of the procedure to me. The office is conveniently to the green line, immaculate, and organized. The receptionist Daria is great too!
Melody D.

Absolutely fantastic experience! I can’t thank Dr. Shamritsky enough for helping my mother with her root canal. She recently arrived from Ukraine, was in pain and in a desperate need of urgent help! Dr. Shamritsky is a great professional, extremely knowledgeable and very patient. His assistant was helping my mom a lot, explaining the process, keeping her calm and comfortable. My mom didn’t feel any pain during the procedure and after it. I’m so glad she was in such good hands. The whole team was so understanding and accommodating. We received not only great professional help, but also very warm and kind care. We are beyond grateful! Cannot recommend them enough! Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your help!"
